GenealogyJ is a good one for linux also. As it runs on Java can be used on windows and mac.

It operates strictly off your gedcom file so you don't have any import/export quirks that most genealogy programs have.

But what about the quirks of the Gedcom program?

Interesting! I just downloaded GenealogyJ and tested it on my system (Ubuntu 8.10 Linux). It works quite well. I especially like the geography view.

This looks like a very good option for anyone that hasn't already invested a lot of time learning a program and is looking for a solution, especially if they desire portability across multiple operating systems.

I won't switch to it from GRAMPS, as I know and love it too much, but I will use it to examine GEDCOM files that I get from others. It is a very nice and professional program - I congratulate the author.
