Having difficulty registering on this forum? Please read this.

We have recently been flooded with "people" attempting to register on this forum.

You have to register in order to post messages here. We used to get 2 or 3 such registrations per day. A week ago that number increased to 50 to 75 registrations per day. When we looked at the I.P. addresses of the would-be registrants, we found that 98% of the registrations came from Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Uzbekistan, and similar third-world countries. I suspect these might not be people, they may be automated computer scripts.

In other words, these are spammers or scripts written by spammers who wish to post spam-like messages here or else they have other plans. Whatever their plans, I am certain they are not seeking genealogy assistance.

In order to control the flood, I have shut off self-registration. As of this time, nobody can register by themselves. The only way to register on this discussion form and to post messages is to have an administrator fill out the registration for you. This change (hopefully) is temporary; I will go back to the old method as soon as these would-be spammers go away.

You can continue to read messages without registering. This change only affects the ability to post messages.

If you would like to register, please contact me at http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy//contact-us.html and tell me your preferred user name and the city and state/province where you are located. (I do not need a street address.)

Thank you.
