When my husband and I were called to a Records Preservation mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from September 2008 to March 2010, we expected to  be one of the many missionaries trained to use the digital cameras almost all of them were using at the time. However we were sent to the Indianapolis Indiana Mission where the archivist for the State of Indiana insisted that microfilm was the only reliable means by which to preserve records and the track record for digitizing was too new to trust. I believe at that time only one other state in the U.S. (Missouri?) held that viewpoint. Anyway, microfilming and microfilming only was the contract the Church made with the State of Indiana in order to film the records and that was what we did for 18 months.

Our camera gave out on us only once and we were shipped a replacement from Salt Lake City overnight, but we knew we were working with equipment that was rapidly becoming obsolete.
